Diving in Wisconsin

Explore diving in Wisconsin

Some of the most highly regarded diving locations in Wisconsin include Devil’s Lake, Lake Wazee, the wreck of the Prins Willem V, and the West Point Quarry.

With its unbeaten clarity and depth, western Wisconsin's Lake Wazee is a spring-fed lake in the town of Brockway: the state’s deepest inland lake. There are a number of crevices in sheer rock walls that draw trout, bluegills, catfish and smallmouth bass as well as a 32 foot/ 9 meter wooden boat on display for divers to explore.

Lake State Park is another popular spot for diving in Wisconsin. With a maximum depth of 45 feet/13 meters, clear water and a fish-filled rocky shoreline, Devil’s Lake has been explored by divers for decades.

When to dive in Wisconsin

During summer months, visibility can reach 30/40 feet 9/12 meters, whilst in the winter it can be as much as 60 feet/18 meters. If you find yourself at Wazee Lake in the winter the lake offers fantastic ice diving, with visibility better than any other time of year.

Most divers wear a 5mm to 7mm wetsuit in the summer and opt for a drysuit and thermal garments in the winter months. Some sites may have access restrictions, so be certain to contact the site before planning a dive in Wisconsin.
