Diving in United kingdom

Quick facts

The United Kingdom is a massive amount of land surrounded by an even greater amount of water. There are hundreds upon hundreds of dive sites to explore, each varying wildly from one another. Diving varies from simple sites that are great for a first dive, and difficult technical dives for the most advanced divers. Everyone can have their fill in these distinctive waters.

Some of the best dives you can go on in the area are wreck dives. There are wrecks from all times. Some of the WWI and WWII wrecks are particularly interesting, especially the Inverlane in Scapa Flow Scotland. Many of the best wrecks are found in the channels between the islands and down in the English Channel. There are thousands of wrecks in the North Sea, alone.

England boasts fantastic islands with profuse marine life, and Ireland’s Killary Harbour is a fantastic fjord to explore.

What to see

With so many different underwater ecosystems, it’s no surprise that there are so many creatures to be found. Fantastic sea stars with plentiful legs, multicolored anemones, and gelatinous invertebrates are common sights in these waters. Crabs, lobsters, and shrimp also make appearances.

During a dive you can come across dolphins, seals, and even whales. Sometimes, sharks will cruise through, but instances of running into these huge fish come few and far between.
