The prime tourist destination of Santa Marta is a city in Colombia’s Magdalena department. You could dive in Santa Marta and its neighboring fishing village of Taganga. Another great diving site is Santa Marta’s Aquarium and museum of the sea. Here you can see turtles, sharks, seals and dolphins and you can enjoy seeing them up close. The annual garbage collection Event in Bay of Taganga is also a popular event, attended by the popular artists, singers and actors. The aim is to save sea from the effects of littering. Santa Marta offers all sorts of dives including coral reefs, wrecks, caves and other marine ecosystems. There are dive sites for divers of different proficiency levels. Beginners and lovers of night diving can head to Remanso and Punta Venado. Granate in Tayrona park is ideal for deep diving as it remains protected from trade winds. La Pecera is a site with a lot of hard coral formations and is often visited by hawksbill turtle. El Torin has the best visibility in the entire area and Calichan has a huge underwater mountain all covered with lettuce coral. The best wreck dive site is Naufragio, where a 17 year old wreck of a boat lies covered by oysters and corals. The surface temperatures remain between 25°C to 30°C, while the water temperature stays between 21°C to 29°C.
