Diving in Phuket

Explore diving in Phuket

With worldwide recognition, scuba diving in Phuket encompasses everything from extensive fringing reefs to dramatic drop-offs, impressive granite walls, wrecks, caves and tunnels. Diving in Phuket is a paradise for scuba divers of all level.

Boulder formations and thriving coral gardens create stunning underwater landscapes. These generally undisturbed ecosystems are home to tremendous diversity from large pelagic like manta rays, whale sharks and tuna down to tiny macro-critters such as seahorse, ghost pipefish and harlequin shrimp.

Towards the northern end of Phuket’s coastline you'll find Lam Ru National Park where a series of granitic outcrops lie in deep, clear water with reefs descending to 35m and beyond. These are known as the Similan Islands.

When to dive in Phuket

Phuket welcomes divers year-round with its warm water rarely dipping below 77ºF/25ºC. The National Marine Park is open for diving from November-May so plan your trip around this time. Visibility ranges from 25-40m.

Most of Phuket’s dive sites are located near the coast with shore entry or within a short speedboat or longtail transfer: so seasons rarely affect accessibility. Currents tend to be gentle all year making sites suitable for all levels.

When the sun goes down and the moon is high in the sky, immerse yourself in a new cast of critters. The moonlight turns a dive site into an alien planet with fluorescent plankton and nocturnal underwater life. Night dives happen all year allowing you to explore your favourite sites from a whole new perspective.
