Larnaca is a Cyprus’ third largest city after Nicosia and Limassol. Larnaca port and marina is one of four gateways to Cyprus through sea. It is located along the southern coast of the island. The city is served by Larnaca International Airport, which is the largest airport in the island. The city is built on the site of ancient city-kingdom of Kition or Citium. Not only is Larnaca the economic nerve center of the country, it is also a popular tourist retreat. The economy of the city thrives on service sector and tourism. The major locations in the city are Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque, Church of Saint Lazarus, Fort of Larnaca, Kamares Aqueduct and Foinikoudes, the palm tree seafront. Larnaca also hosts several festivals every year and the most well known is the Festival of Floods (Kataklysmos) held in early summers every year. Larnacas beaches are very popular with tourists. There are a number of diving centers in the city which offer exciting diving excursions. The average visibility is 20 meters and temperature is 15 to 28 degrees Celsius.
