The difficult access and absence of tourists’ rush has served the reefs of Capurgana very well. This beautiful Colombian city lies in the Gulf of Uraba. The reefs in this area are the most virgin and un-penetrated in the world. Every dive promises to expose you to a rich and diverse landscape. This secluded corner is a favorite spot of several marine species that reside in this area. Many coral reefs are in excellent condition and are host to a diverse marine life. The most common residents of these waters are groupers, surgeon fish, angelfish, parrotfish, trumpet fish, damselfish, snappers, nurse sharks, hawksbill turtle and lobsters. There are more than 30 dive sites in this area and many are spectacular wall dives for advanced level scuba divers. There are also some for novice divers that are easier than others. Popular dive sites are Cabo Tiburon, La Grieta and La Cueva del Mero. It is also recommended to visit the beautiful neighboring island of San Blas in Panama.
