The island of Alor is a part of an eponymous archipelago in Lesser Sunda Islands group. It is located between Sawoe and Flores Seas. Alor along with Pantar are the main islands of the archipelago. The strait between Alor and Pantar is a world class diving area. Alor has become much more connected and can now easily be accessed. Tourists can reach this heaven through short aerial hops from Bali and Java. The Alor Marine Park in the area has the patronage of the local government. The island is being developed as a popular eco-tourism site. Local communities are working closely with government and have limited fishing to preserve the biodiversity and richness of Pantar strait. Blast and cyanide fishing is not practiced in this area. This has helped in preservation of coral reefs and marine life. Revenue generated from tourism is used in enhancing and supporting such efforts. Pantar strait is under the process of becoming a National Park. It already is a protected area.
